The defamation trail between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp began on the 11th of April 2022 in Fairfax, Virginia. Depp is suing Heard for implying that he is a domestic abuser and she is countersuing.
The two met in 2009 on the set of “The Rum Diary” and they got married in 2015, their divorce was finalized in 2017. During Depp’s cross-examination, Heard’s lawyer alleged that when Depp was under the influence of alcohol or drugs he was physically and sexually abusive towards her. The issue of his alcohol and drug use was heavily pressed on. He didn’t deny his drinking but denied the claim that he was abusive to Heard. He said “The only person I’ve ever abused in my life is myself”.
This defamation trail has become a fight to prove who was more abusive in their relationship. Depp told the jury how Heard threw a vodka bottle at him which smashed his finger on the edge of the bar in their house. Heard’s lawyer then suggested that he could have cut t with a knife.
To prove this wrong Depp’s lawyer has called a witness to testify to the abuse that Johnny Depp endured, Ben King the house manger told the court that he found a severed fingertip in a tissue along with a broken bottle of vodka. Heard also accused Depp of putting out a cigarette on her. Heard then used a recorded to prove this, in the recording you clearly hear Heard say “Go put your f-ing cigarette out on someone else” and Depp replied with “you f-ing have consequences for our actions!”.
However Depp called allegations against him a “grossly exaggerated moment” as he denied that he three or put out a cigarette on her and he says some ashes my have flicked in her direction.
