“I am no longer married to Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi” Berita Speaks

Afro-soul musician Gugulethu “Berita” Khumalo has gone on Twitter to clear the air about her marriage to the music mogul, Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi, saying that they are no longer married.

This comes after Nota made a very controversial statement about a popular influencer Mihlali Ndamase saying he does not find Ndamase attractive and that he could buy her. He went on to say she is for sale. Not only was Nota dragged on Twitter but his wife Berita was also dragged for marrying what they called an “irresponsible man”. The couple has been traditionally married for the past 2 years. Berita took it to Twitter and said she has been off Twitter for a couple of days and only became aware of the statements made by Nota last night.

“I would like to, first of all, clear the air by being transparent to you all. I have been quiet because there are families involved in this situation. I am no longer married to Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi. I left our marital home on Thursday the 13 of January 2022. Berita wrote” This came as a shock to South Africans because no one knew that they were no longer married.  I have been quiet because my safety has been a huge concern. This man is extremely irresponsible, reckless, and unruly.” He simply does not listen to anyone. I do not condone his actions. I cannot even begin to count the numerous times he has erred in his speech. It’s even difficult for me to follow his every move. I simply cannot babysit a grown man.” Berita added. She even went as far as apologising on her ex-husband’s behalf to Mihlali for the hateful speech he made on the podcast. “@mihlalii_n mntase uxolo( forgive me) I apologise to you. I do not condone the things said by Nota to you. No woman should ever have to be objectified and ripped apart publicly or privately! The bullying and disgrace I have faced publicly and privately are painful. This man’s irrational behaviour is beyond me. I am a very reasonable person. I will be the first to admit it, I missed very big red flags. The day I decided to leave my marriage. Is the day I had to choose between being married and being alive” Berita has said

Nota and the podcast host were speaking about women and making distasteful comments about them during their discussion. People were concerned with how casually Nota spoke about killing a woman, especially given the majority of gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa.
