Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom requesting Cristiano Ronaldo’s signed jersey

Cristiano Ronaldo

Jersey number 7 of Manchester United, holds iconic status at United having previously been worn by the likes of George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, and Cristiano Ronaldo since his departure at United in 2009 the players who wore the jersey after him failed to deliver what is expected of them when donning the jersey.

On Wednesday 01 September 2021, it was rumoured through a post of “Sports innovation” on twitter that Queen Elizabeth had made a personal request to the Manchester United team for a signed jersey of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Sports Innovation Society later deleted the tweet and issued a public apology for not confirming the veracity of the news.

Michael Owen worn the jersey for 3 seasons and in 2012 it was handed to Antonio Valencia but failed to live up to the expectations as his form on the pitch took a knock and later returned to jersey number 25. In the 2013-14 season United finished the season without a number 7. Angel Di Maria later donned the number 7 jersey but he left for PSG months later. The likes of Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez have also worn it.

Having taken the number 7 jersey in 2020, Edison Cavani has recently handed the jersey to its former owner Cristiano Ronaldo who recently returned to Manchester United. Ronaldo joined United from Juventus on a two-year deal.

The rumours are still spreading on social media and the rumours were ruled out to be FAKE, as nothing has been confirmed by the British Monarch.
