Numerus lives were lost on Thursday night in Alex, during loadshedding. Following the promise from Gauteng Premier David Makhura, to have suspects arrested by Friday, taxi drivers marched to the station to demand arrest after one of the victims was a taxi driver. At this stage seven arrest were made before the end of Friday. With allegations of the attacked said to be a robbing and killing spree, Minister Bheki Cele says they will investigate to see if the ten cell phones belonged to the victims of the attacks.

Cele has acknowledged the community for coming forward with information leading them to the responsible killers. “I am not comfortable with the response by the police. They didn’t respond in time to arrest the killers on the spot and prevent further killings. Police have worked well. They have a murder weapon, empty magazines and spent pistol cartridges, and arrested seven people. The community has been super in working with the police,” he said.
