The Jacob Zuma foundation show gratitude to the public, as donations keep growing. It was earlier within the week when the Jacob Zuma Foundation pleaded with the general public to donate money to assist the Former President of South Africa Jacob Zuma, to cover his legal fees.

The 79-year-old former president has been fighting a protracted corruption case linked to an arms deal signed more than 20 years ago when he was deputy leader and adding to that fifteen months in prison for defying a court order to appear before the Zondo Commission, which is investigating charges of corruption during Zuma’s 2009-2018 presidency

In December 2018, months after he was ousted from the presidency by the ANC, he was ordered by a court to reimburse the state the equivalent of more than a million dollar that had been spent on his legal bills.

On Tuesday morning the Zuma foundation made a humble call to ask for legal fees support for former president Jacob Zuma.

“Dear People of South Africa and the world. Please lend a helping hand,” The Zuma foundation tweeted.

Although the foundation’s request was met with mixed reactions on social media. Some users saying that the former president “should be able to cover his legal fees with the money he allegedly stole”.

Some have since opened their wallets and donated towards the previous president’s increasingly high bill with no complaints.

The Jacob Zuma Foundation took to the Twitter page to show gratitude to the public for their contributions and has thanked people for their support.

“Today we saw another generous instalment of sacrifices by those heeding the  call to assist H.E Pres Zuma. The contributions are growing impressively. The Foundation is very grateful, Thank you. There is no minimum amount, every cent counts. Together we shall conquer.” The Jacob Zuma Foundation

However the foundation says it’s still too early to reveal how much has been donated thus far since putting out the request on Tuesday.
