Mamelodi Sundowns kicked off their second fixture of the DSTV Premiership campaign and their first away game of the season against Chippa United, at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The teams came into the fixture looking to secure their second consecutive wins of DSTV Premiership and bagging all the 3 points. Coming into the fixture Mamelodi Sundowns missed their heroic midfielder Themba Zwane due to an injury.
In the first 45 minutes, the visitors missed the chance to break the deadlock as Riaan Hanamub played out of his possession and allowed Peter Shalulile to be a threat in the 18-yard box but Ismail Watenga was on alert in the 7th minute. Sundowns continued knocking at Chippa’s goal posts through Aubrey Modiba but Watenga was there to do his job. The Brazilians continued to be a threat as Peter Shalulile tried to break the deadlock again through a header following a cross from Mothobi Mvala. The match went into half-time goalless.
In the second half Mamelodi Sundowns made substitutions as they were looking for an away win, Safranko came in for Shalulile in the 68th minute and Domingo making his way for Vilakazi. As Mamelodi Sundowns dominated in terms of ball possession 79%-29%, Shots on target 4-0. The Chilli Boys and Mamelodi Sundowns couldn’t break the deadlock as the match ended with a goalless draw at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.
