In an interview with Podcast And Chill, Blaq Diamond confirmed to leaving Ambitiouz Entertainment record, but say their departure unlike other former artists, had nothing to do with financial problems or abuse by the label, they just realized it is time for them to grow and become independent.
“It was time, we have grown now. It was between sticking with the label or choosing growth more than anything you know, because we wanted to go and tap into the African market, so they felt like if we tap into the African market we’re gonna lose our people here local,” said Blaq Diamond.
Blaq Diamond is a South African afro pop duo, Sphelele Dunywa and Ndumiso Mdletshe, from Ladysmith KwaZulu Natal. They met in 2010 when they were on a school trip and participated in the music cryptography of the school bus together.
They signed with Ambiouz Entertainment’s record label and released their debut album, Inqola, which became the first iTunes number one. The duo has revealed as they left Ambitiouz Entertainment, last December it was a smooth exit without any blunders with the label owners.
Most of South African young artists started their big career signed with Ambitous Entertainment, but a lot of them have left the label complaining about being underpaid and exploited.
The two later said that they decided to leave the label due to conflicting interests with their agency.
