14 people at a tavern in Soweto, shot dead Saturday night, while four people are now in critical condition in hospital. This incident is the second shooting in the same week, after one was reported in Katlehong at a taverna.

According to the latest reports, 23 patrons were shot at the Nomzamo tavern in Orlando, just after midnight. Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela, confirmed the news saying there was no signs of struggle or a fight that broke, however according to the scene, it seemed as though it was a normal enjoyment as people were also playing pool.

“Yes I can confirm that incident did happen and it happened around 12:30am this morning, primary investigations suggest the people were enjoying themselves in the tavern. They just came in and shot at them randomly,” Mawela said.

“The age range is just an estimation from my detectives to say they are between 19 and 35 years.” he added.

The four critical victims are currently fighting for their lives at Baragwanath Hospital. Mawela says liquor outlet trading hours to be looked at. This is an ongoing developing story.
