The Springboks locked horns with Argentina in an epic encounter of the Rugby Championship on Saturday, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The Springboks added salt on Argentina’s wounds as they performed well in the Rugby Championship opener last week beating Argentina 32-12 in the first test.
The Springboks came into the encounter as underdogs, in the first half Argentina was put under pressure, and in the 10th minute Springboks opened the score sheets. In the 17th minute Springboks were awarded a penalty after a solid scrum and Pollard converted it into another 3 points making the score line 6-0.
In the 19th minute Thomas Du toit won a penalty for the Boks after a physical encounter and Pollard stepped up to extend Springbok’s lead making it 9-0.
In the 24th minute Argentina won a penalty through Wiese and Mioti stepped up to pull 3 points back for Argentina. Pollard again extended the Boks lead through a penalty in the 29th minute after Mapimpi knocked on a superb kick from Kolbe.
It got more emotional as the Pumas were down to 10 men after Rodrigo Bruni was red carded for too many violent occasions and Pollard extended the Boks lead to 15-3. The Pumas won a penalty in the 39th minute but Miotti’s shot went wide. The Pumas went into the half-time trailing 15-3.
The second half kicked off and in the 42nd minute the Pumas were awarded a penalty, but Miotti failed to convert it. In the 46th minute Mapimpi scored his first try, and Le Roux gave a lovely pass to Pollard who converted it, making the score line 22-3.
Argentina’s ill-discipline got the better of them as the Boks couldn’t stop punishing them. In the 51st minute Boks pulled another 3 points through Pollard making it 29-3. Argentina’s woes couldn’t stop as Lavanini was shown a yellow card. In the dying minutes Argentina were awarded a penalty after scoring a try, which Sanchez converted in the 85th minute making the full-time score 29-10. Lood de Jager was awarded the man of the match accolade.
