It’s WAFA WAFA time. Golden Arrows and Supersport United will kick-off their 2021/22 season with the Mtn 8 quarter final clash tomorrow at Princess Magogo stadium.
The match is set to kick-off at 15:00pm and will be televised on the national broadcaster SABC 1 and all radio stations. Golden Arrows had a good season and finished their 2020 / 21 season on a high, 4th position in the DSTV Premiership. Despite the departure of their head coach Mandla Ncikazi who joined Orlando Pirates in the off season, Abafana Bas’thende had a successful pre-season under the leadership of their new coach Letlhogonolo Seema.
Coach Letlhogonolo Seema is confident ahead of the new season as he mentioned “There’s one thing we are looking at this season which is to challenge for the league honours and push as far as we can, if the opportunity presents itself like this weekend lets take a trophy or two to reward the chairlady”
Seema went on to say that his technical team as well as the players, have set high standards to reach this season. This is based on the performance of the team’s last season and the belief that they can improve on the 2020 / 21 result.
Golden Arrows have bolstered their squad by signing a number of youngsters ahead of the clash, the most notable signing is Mthokozisi Dube who joins from Orlando Pirates as well as Andile Fikizolo.
Meanwhile, Supersport United who have won this tournament twice in the last four years, may be more confident going into the clash with the hope of repeating their Mtn 8 heroics.
Coach Kaitano Tembo said “Coming to the game against golden arrows is a tough game as we are playing away from home and arrows is a good team.” But his team is ready and prepared for the challenge, the coach also reiterated that they are expecting to make few signings to bolster their defence.
