KwaZulu-Natal warned about possible floods this weekend

A month after devastating floods that killed almost 450 people and destroyed infrastructure, the latest KZN weather warnings has everyone crossing their fingers. KwaZulu-Natal and the rest of South Africa are crossing fingers and only hoping that the worst does not happen.

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) released an alert for flooding as the official weather warnings were bumped to level 5. Saturday is likely to bring a troubling a huge amount of rain. “A cold front is expected to pass through KZN tonight, with a surface high pressure system that ridges behind. There will be widespread showers and thunderstorms across the province. Models indicate there will be significant rainfall along the coast on Saturday, resulting in flooding.” A statement from SAWS stated.

SAWS also stated that with the Level 5 alert, there is a danger to life due to fast flowing water. A danger to infrastructure and property is possible as well.

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala has urged KZN residents to be cautious. “As the government of KwaZulu Natal, we would like to inform the residents that the SAWS has issued a statement about the troublesome rainfall that will happen this weekend. We urge the residents to be cautious and be in safe spaces,” he said.
