EFF threatens a national shut down over fuel increase

Fuel increase

The Economic Freedom Fighters, threaten to consider a national shutdown, until  the price of petrol is reduced. They are demanding for the National Treasury, together with the Minister of Energy, welcome measures that will reduce the fuel and petrol prices.

According to the statement issued on 31 May 2022, “the announced fuel increases do not come as a shock to the EFF as we have long warned that the government does not have a practical and believable plan to address the rising cost of living in the short and medium term, or even in the long term. The reality is that workers and poor households are left to deal with drastic increases in food, petrol, electricity and housing costs on their own when the ruling party uses state resources to serve only their interests.”

As of midnight, fuel price will increase with over R2, the petrol price for 93 unleaded will increase by R2,43 and 95 unleaded by R2,33. All grades of diesel will increase by between R1,07 and R1,10, illuminating paraffin by R1,56. The party on their statement, has said these changes are “a result of cabinet collective incompetence, corruption and mismanagement of the economy.”
