Comair Suspends Kulala and British Airways Flights due to ‘Funding Constraints’

Airways

Late yesterday evening, Comair announced that it would be suspending the operation of all Kulala and British Airways flights, starting as soon as Wednesday, the 1st of June. According to Comair, the suspension of flights has been commenced ‘pending the securing of additional funding’.

Operating under the license agreement of Comair, both Kulala and British Airways flights have been cancelled and indefinitely suspended. On Tuesday evening, Comair revealed in a tweet that it simply could not afford to keep its airlines in the air. “Comair regrets to advise its flights have been voluntarily suspended from 1 Jun pending securing funding,” the flight operator tweeted.

Additionally, the ticket sales for all British Airways and Kulala flights have been suspended with immediate effect.

In a statement released by Comair, CEO Glenn Orsmond adressed the suspension controversy and revealed the company’s plans for the recommencement of Kulala and British Airways flights operations.

Orsmond says, “We deeply regret the inconvenience this suspension will cause our customers. We did everything we could to avoid it. Comair, the BRPs (business rescue practitioners) and the lenders are all working out to get the funding in place so that we can resume our normal flight schedule as soon as possible.”

Many infuriated customers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the haphazard cancellation of their flights. One social media user tweeted, “This is affecting people in many ways. A person could be missing a life changing interview, business deal or [getting help] with a health-related issue.” Another user tweeted, “They were selling tickets yesterday afternoon – taking people’s money knowing that they were never going to honor the purchase…surely this is fraud?”

At the present moment, Comair has not released any statement regarding when flights could be expected to become operational again.
