On Friday at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court, the bail hearing for five people accused of helping Thabo Bester escape from a maximum security jail went on for a second day.

The G4S guards Senohe Matsoara, Motenyani Masukela, Tieho Makhotsa, and Natassja Jansen, as well as Integritron Integrated Solutions (IIS) technician staff Teboho Lipholo, had their affidavits read by the defense when they first appeared on Thursday.

The State also called the first witness, but he was unable to complete his statement before the court adjourned for the day.

The unnamed witness was scheduled to resume testifying on Friday and potentially be subjected to the defense’s cross-examination.Her defense argues that this is due to recently discovered information that needs to be investigated. On Tuesday, she will show up in court. On the same day, Bester, Sekeleni, and her father are scheduled to appear.

On Thursday, it was made public in court that Lipholo had told the police he was involved in the escape and had implicated the other defendants.
