An 82-year-old female was found in possession of dagga(cannabis) during a routine check of a minibus near Eswatini and the South African border. She was arrested on the 12th of may 2022, made an appearance in court on Friday 13 May. She was believed to be on her way to Bushbuckridge, with 3.88kg of dagga strapped to her body. She was charged with dealing dagga in court.
The provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said that Tonga police officers were busy patrolling in Magudu near the South African border, where they spotted the minibus with some passengers. The minibus was stopped and a search was conducted, the passengers were searched as well. The old lady was searched and was found with dagga allegedly wrapped around her body. The dagga was seized from her was weighing at 3.88kg with the street value of around R6000. “She was subsequently arrested and charged with dealing dagga” Mohala said.
Mohala said that after investigations, it was revealed that the lady was allegedly transporting the dagga to Bushbuckridge when she was stopped by the police. She appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s court and the matter was later struck of the roll.
