Getting a better view of the night sky, the students at the University of Free State Qwa Qwa left stranded.
Due to unpaid NSFAS allowances, students have no choice but to sleep outside as they cannot afford accomodation and with some not able to register for lessons.
Imagine qualifying to study at the university of your choice only to sleep outside. Many of the accepted enrollees are left to see themselves out after the institution failed to resolve the NSFAS hiccup and the registration inconvenient situation.
When explaining their stories on social media, they say they have been accepted and requested to come register, only to find that the NSFAS allowance is not available for allocation and the hopes of getting into the lecture hall is just a thought.
Left outside with their suitcases and belongings, the quarrel in groups to sleep, putting their heads on top of each other hoping tomorrow will be a better day with better answers. Told to join lectures, they sit and wonder how when they are not yet registered.
The institution has not issued a statement regarding the current situation. Parents say they hope their children will return home and forget the NSFAS being resolved. Others have already left for home, forced to take a gap year. Meanwhile universities have made vaccination mandatory, causing more student to take the sky gazing option.
