The South African Police Service in Gauteng confirmed that approximately R7.4 million worth of Counterfeit goods were confiscated in the Johannesburg CBD during the Operation O Kae Molao on Friday, 26 November 2021.
Members from the Gauteng SAPS together with other law enforcement agencies were dispatched across the Gauteng province during the operation which saw 67 people arrested for various crimes including the possession of drugs, suspected stolen vehicles, dealing of illicit goods, drunk driving, unlicensed distribution of liquor and other various crimes.
The SAPS also announced that 11 undocumented persons were also arrested. “Meanwhile in Johannesburg CBD, another team consisting of provincial Crime Intelligence, Public Order Policing, Customs and private security seized counterfeit goods to the value of approximately R7.4 million. Three Suspects were arrested,” the SAPS announced.
The Gauteng SAPS also confirmed that R100 000 worth of illicit cigarettes were seized in Springs. “In Springs another team comprising of Provincial Commercial Crime, Crime Intelligence, Customs and Private Security arrested one suspect for possession and dealing with illicit cigarettes,” the SAPS added.
