Mustek | South African Tech giant CEO dies


Mustek announced that the co-founder and CEO of the company David Kan has passed away, the company announced on their website that the longest serving CEO of the tech giant company has passed on.

David Kan is a co-founder of Mustek limited, the larges assembler and distributors of personal computers and complementary ICT products company in South Africa. The company is located in Midrand South Africa. It was founded in 1987 after David Kan arrived in the country in 1986, .

As stated on the company website “it is with profound sadness that Mustek Limited confirms that David Kan, our much loved and and co-founder and CEO since the group’s inception in 1987 has passed away.” The company went on to extend it’s heartfelt condolences to David’s family, stating that their thoughts are with them at this most difficult time.

Mustek Limited combines the best of local assembly capabilities through its Mecer brand, with a multi-national product portfolio via a broad range of top tier brands, including: Acer, ASUS, Samsung, Lenovo, Brother, Microsoft Volume Licensing, Brand-Rex, Huawei, miniflex, Mustek Security Technologies and Mustek Energy, to name a few.

David Kan did different kinds of odd jobs growing up such as being a truck driver, working for a removal company, being a waiter and a dish washer at the age of 15, the former CEO is a proof that doing odd jobs doesn’t mean you will not get to where you wanna be in life.

David Kan attended South African computer exhibition in 1987 in Johannesburg, thats where is he met the managing director (MD) of Mustek corporation Owen Chan. He got to the knowledge that the company wanted to setup a warehouse in South Africa, as he was familiar with South Africa he proposed partnership with Mustek corporation, Owen and his father borrowed him $50,000 to get started.
